This next blog will be on a movie called In Time, directed by Andrew Niccol. This movie takes place in the future where time is the currency. Where the wealthy can live forever and the poor live day to day. The main character of the story named Will meets a wealthy man would doesn’t wish to live any longer; so he gives Will his time. Will during the movie kept making reference back to his father. During the movie Will said his dad gave people hope. Will finds out that the time keepers (Police) got rid of his father for that very reason. That giving people hope lets them know that they have the power to take back what’s theirs. This is true for many places in the world, that when the people live in fear they won’t stand for themselves and let the government control them. Even the smallest glimmer of hope will be crushed just so the government will remain in power and control. In Time they show how strong the power of hope really is. Not only did it start a revolution, it started to change people’s lives for the better. Another point that this movie tries to make is that everyone is equal and no one should get more time to live then another.
Philippe Weis: “For a few to remain immortal, many must die.”
Will Salas: “No one should be immortal, if even one person has to die.”
This reflects back to the importance of human rights and how they shouldn’t be violated for not even one person. Will shows that no one should kill another just so they can live longer then everyone else. That all humans should have equal rights and no one should be violated. This movie reflects the ideas of hope and human rights. Each day a person rights are violated or someone tries to prevent them dreaming of a better future. This movie shows that no one can stop you from getting what you deserve.
